Introducing UPCYCLE

We are sitting on a multi-century stockpile of sustainable energy.
UPCYCLE is the key to unlocking it.

overview

Transforming nuclear vision into reality.

Today, a nuclear fuel assembly is used once and retired — with 95% of its energy content still intact. UPCYCLE changes that equation. By recovering the uranium and transuranics in used nuclear fuel, and re-introducing them into the fuel cycle, Exodys enables a true circular economy for nuclear energy.

possibilities

With UPCYCLE, 1 MT of used nuclear fuel can become:

~900 kg
900 kg of recovered uranium.
40M kWh
40 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
~4,000
Enough to power approx. 4,000 average American homes for a year.
16,000 MT
16,000 metric tons of coal would need to be burned to produce the equivalent energy package.
~5,300 MT
Approx. 5,300 metric tons of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is needed to produce the same energy.

how it works

A recycling system built for the real world.

1
Mechanical Treatment

Spent fuel assemblies — PWR, BWR, and MOX — are received and mechanically processed to release the fuel material and prepare it for electrochemical processing.

2
Pyroprocessing

Fuel material undergoes separation in a molten salt bath, recovering uranium and mixed actinides in solid form. A dry, compact, proliferation-resistant process — pure plutonium is never isolated.

3
Waste Management

Residual fission products are stabilized into a manageable solid waste form — dramatically reducing waste volume and radioactive lifetime compared to once-through fuel cycles
