Carl is a native New Yorker and earned his B.S. from Babson College. In his final year of undergraduate studies, he began a decade-long career in nuclear energy as CEO of Elysium Industries, a molten salt reactor company, where he led partnerships, technology development, and government relations.

In 2023, he co-founded Exodys Energy, a nuclear fuel recycling developer, alongside U.S. Navy nuclear system designers and recycling operators from La Hague, France. The company is partially owned by the State of New York.

Carl advises multiple nuclear initiatives across industry and government, including the Nuclear Energy Institute’s Recycling Task Force, and was elected by industry as co-lead of the DOE Nuclear Fuel DPA Consortium’s Reprocessing & Recycling Committee. He also serves on the advisory board of Nuclear New York, an independent, non-partisan advocacy organization that helped advance New York State’s recent nuclear expansion announcements.

He supports development of the next-generation nuclear workforce through his role on the Industrial Advisory Board of Excelsior University and is the author of Chapter 22 in the latest edition of the Molten Salt Reactor & Thorium Fuel Cycle textbook.

With a distinguished career spanning over 40 years, JC Piroux is a globally recognized authority in the nuclear back-end fuel cycle. He combines high-level executive leadership, international crisis management, and strategic advisory roles for government and financial institutions.

Prior to co-founding Exodys Energy, JC Piroux served as the Chief Technical & Performance Officer at Veolia Nuclear Solutions (VNS). In this capacity, he established and exercised the role of Global Technical Authority, steering the group’s international expertise strategy, leading technical due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, and overseeing high-stakes projects, including strategic support for EDF’s reactor life extension programs.

His tenure within the Orano Group (formerly Areva and Cogema) is marked by unparalleled operational and strategic leadership. As Chief Technical Officer of International Operations, he orchestrated technological support and contract execution across four continents. He notably spearheaded the treatment and vitrification programs at the La Hague plant—the world’s largest reprocessing facility—and co-directed the creation of the Joint CEA-AREVA Research Laboratory (LCV), a global benchmark for radioactive waste conditioning. His international footprint includes serving as Deputy Project Director for the maintenance readiness of the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant in Japan (a €1B+ project).

Demonstrating exceptional operational resilience, JC was mobilized as a core expert during the 2011 Fukushima accident, where he designed and deployed emergency radioactive effluent treatment solutions in a major crisis context.

Today, JC Piroux brings this industrial stature to Exodys Energy Inc. (New York) to redefine performance standards for spent nuclear fuel reprocessing in the United States. He continues to serve as an Expert for the French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN), a member of the Nuclear Valley scientific council, and a lead evaluator for strategic investment projects on behalf of the French Public Investment Bank (BPI).
